One begins the 1st Stage of the training programme through The Telescope TMA. Here, it’s all about training, research and skills acquisition. Whilst at it, the Telescope (trainee) receives mentoring and coaching.

The 2nd Stage of the training programme is about practical projects, portfolio building and the gaining of real working experience. Once again, Telescopes (trainees) receive further mentoring and coaching.

Each Telescope specializes in specific areas and builds 3 Career Portfolios. Additionally, (s)he will build 3 Networking Portfolios.

Upon going through the two years of training successfully, one gets to receive 1, 2, 3 or 4 international certificates as per the person’s registration.

How The Training Is Going To Be Like

Journalism Training Overview

journalism_training_overview

With the Journalism Training, Telescopes (trainees) get taught how to become real journalists whereby they will know how to get news, do field reports and interviews, get statistics and even how they can use their camera phones to do video reports. It is more or less like an internship in a media company, whilst still in school. The media training of TTCJN covers both the print and electronic media. Telescopes (trainees) gain real working experience in TV, radio, web and newspaper production. Through the different versions of the Campus Fila  platform, Telescopes get the opportunity to practice and gain real working experience in different aspects of media.

  • Print Media: Real working experience as a reporter, journalist, content manager, editor etc.
  • Electronic Media: Real working experience as a TV reporter, newscaster, producer, director etc.

Campus Fila Media Platform

Working Experience

With respect to working experience under the Journalism Training Module, Telescopes (trainees) gain working experience in both print and electronic media. As has already been said, the Campus Fila platform has a TV version, Radio version, Website version and Newspaper version.

All of them are put at the disposal of Telescopes and they get the opportunity to practice on all the different platforms to gain working experience in them. They gain real working experience in TV and radio production, blogging and writing for print or online. They also get to have their articles published on our website and in our newspaper to help build their professional portfolios.

Additionally, we have partnerships with various media houses and Telescopes periodically visit them to experience how they operate professionally and to also learn from them.

By the time a Telescope is done with the training, (s)he would have gained real working experience as a Reporter, Newscaster, Producer, Director Etc.

International Certificates Trainees Receive

Journalism Training Certificate

The training lasts for two years. Hence, certification is done after the two-year training period has ended – not before or during the training period. But if it so happens that a Telescope’s duration in TTCJN is less than two years (due to the fact that (s)he is graduating from school), then (s)he shall be certified when (s)he is graduating from school so that (s)he can add the TTCJN certificate(s) to the academic certificate that (s)he will be getting from his/her institution.

We have three different types of certificates in TTCJN:

  • Training & Working Experience Certificate.
  • Leadership & Management Certificate.
  • Volunteerism Certificate.

Training And Working Experience Certificate:

We have four training programmes that one can register for. After signing up, one will have to register for the one(s) that (s)he is interested in and after going through the training successfully, (s)he will receive a certificate based on the number of programmes (s)he registered for. So a Telescope can get 1, 2, 3 or all 4 certificates at the end of his/her training.

Journalism Training And Working Experience Certificate:

If one registers for the Journalism Training programme, then (s)he is going to receive a Journalism Training Certificate at the end of the two-year training period.

See the other certificates that a Telescope can get.

2-Year Training Programme

Journalism Training Phases

As has already been said, each of our training programmes is a two-year programme and runs synchronously with the other training programmes. The training is in two Stages.

  • Stage 1: One begins the 1st Stage of the training programme through The Telescope TMA, which is all about training, research and skills acquisition. Whilst at it, the Telescope (trainee) receives mentoring and coaching.
  • Stage 2: The 2nd Stage of the training programme is about practical projects, portfolio building and the gaining of real working experience. Telescopes (trainees) specialize in their areas of choice and build the three professional portfolios by doing research and practical projects to gain more working experience. Once again, they receive further mentoring and coaching.

Journalism Training Phases

With respect to the Journalism Training, this is how the training will go for the two stages of the training.

  • Stage 1: Telescopes are taken through Reporting And Newscasting which helps them to know how to do field news reports and report them.
  • Stage 2: Telescopes learn about News, Media Law & Ethics for both print and electronic media, especially the online versions.

At the end of the 1st Year of the programme, Telescopes get to know how to handle and present news for both TV and Radio, as well as how to write news items for print (newspaper and web).

Professional Value Addition

Journalism Training Portfolios

A portfolio is like a CV or resume for a specific aspect of one’s life. It adds value to a person and enhances the certificates and CV of the person. So in TTCJN, our training programmes have all been designed such that, as the student is being trained, (s)he also builds three different portfolios for himself or herself. The three different portfolios we help trainees of the Journalism Training Module to build are:

  • 1. A Professional Portfolio: Articles, news reports, activities and events related to the programme the trainee is studying in school.
  • 2. An Interest Portfolio: Articles, news reports, activities and events related to something that the trainee is passionate about.
  • 3. A Social Work Portfolio: Articles, news reports, activities and events related the trainee’s volunteerism and selflessness activities.
